Ken Hicks, 35, who is enrolled at Florida Community College of Jacksonville and majoring in the Automotive Service Management Technology Program, said he has a deep passion for cars, particularly the Mustang.

“My wife and I both had Mustangs prior to starting our family – hers was a ‘67 Fastback and mine was a ‘79 Cobra,” Hicks said.
“Well, five children later we were able to get our ‘Stangs’ back. Now I have a 2006 Mustang GT and she has a 2007 Mustang GT ragtop.”

Hicks said his GT, named Jizabel, is extremely modified for visual effect and performance. “It has a blown 4.6L V8 with more than 550 horses. We enjoy taking it to shows as much as we can and we’ve collected more than 20 awards and trophies in a year’s time,” he said.

The car’s best quarter mile time is 11.80 at 117 mph.

Hicks, who works in an internship at HP Performance in Jacksonville, credits his instructors Jake Alliton and Paul Soar for their support in his career choice.

I’ve always loved cars and working on them,” Hicks said. “Working on cars gives me a sense of accomplishment when it is fixed to perfect orking order.

Hicks said Ford Mustangs have always had a special place in his and his wife’s heart. Today, they are members of Modern Mustangs of Jacksonville where they attend car shows and cruise-ins with their vehicles. “The car has
been a family project from the start. My wife and five kids all have helped in the transformation of the car.”
