Tomorrow's Technician School of the Year Contest Receives Record Nominations

This is an extremely popular program in the automotive industry and schools that participate in the contest do a great job of showcasing their automotive program.
As the second step in the 2011 Tomorrow’s Technician School of the Year gets underway, I have to say we are pleased with the results so far.
At the end of December, the nomination deadline for the contest, sponsored by WIX Filters, ended.
As editor of Tomorrow's Technician magazine and a judge assigned to the annual recognition program, I have been busy recording the e-mail nominations.
I am pleased to announce that a record-setting 301 recommendation e-mails were received, nominating 95 various automotive technical, secondary and high school programs in the U.S.
I, along with other contest judges, now have the task of refining the submissions into the Top 20 list, which is created using five schools from each of the four regions (Southwest, Southeast, Northwest and Northeast).
These schools that receive the Top 20 title will be notified by a letter in late January and will have the opportunity to vie for the title of 2011 School of the Year by putting together a promotional binder that highlights their auto program.
The 2011 School of the Year will be chosen from the four regional finalists and will be featured on the cover and in the May issue of Tomorrow’s Technician.
The winning school and three finalists will receive an award package from WIX Filters, Chicago Pneumatic and Waterloo.
The winning school will also receive a special award presentation event at their school, with staff from Tomorrow’s Technician and representatives from the contest sponsors.
This is the fourth year of the nationally recognized contest. Past winners include:
• 2010: Caddo Career and Technical Center (CCTC), Shreveport, La.
• 2009: Ohio Technical College (OTC), Cleveland, OH
• 2008: Waubonsee Community College, Sugar Grove, IL
Gary Weese, lead automotive instructor at Caddo Career & Technology Center, said the nationally recognized School of the Year program is a great asset to automotive schools.
“We are extremely grateful to receive the 2010 School of the Year award on behalf of CCTC,” Weese said. “Being named school of the year means so much to our automotive program. The sponsors of this contest are really part of “The A-Team” in this industry.”
I have to agree with Mr. Weese. This is an extremely popular program in the automotive industry and schools that participate in the contest do a great job of showcasing their automotive program.
