Jeff Sandt, an avid reader of Tomorrow’s Technician, shows off his “project car” a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT powered with a V6 3.8L Mivec naturally-aspirated engine that cranks out 295 HP.
“What started with a simple halogen headlight replacement event has resulted in this tricked out Eclipse,” Sandt said.
“I began this project in the summer of 2006 and once I started I got hooked. I was focused on the style portion first then the performance. I swapped the stock wheels and added new chrome wheels and Nitto 555 235/35/18’s. Then swapped the stock springs for a lower profile and center of gravity with Eibach springs.”
Sandt said after looking at some modified magazines and attending car shows, he opted for a new paint scheme. “I intended to stop at the hood but the sides were lacking so additional custom paint was added to the side skirt and rear panels,” he said. “Then, I dressed up the interior with painted seat backs for that fiberglass look.”
Sandt said performance came next with a new intake, exhaust and headers, as well as fuel tune. Future plans include new cams and some more tuning, a new clutch and flywheel and maybe a supercharger. “Once you start its hard to stop!”
