VIDEO: Direct Injection Fuel Pump Killers
In this video, Andrew Markel covers how a fuel pump can fail. This video is sponsored by Carter.
Curing Carbon Deposits On Direct Injection Engines
Direct injection improves fuel economy by injecting the correct amount of fuel for the conditions in the combustion chamber. But, it is not a perfect science: Carbon deposits can form on the intake valves, piston and other surfaces in the combustion chamber.
VIDEO: Carbon Deposits On Direct Injection Engines
Jon Nelson explains why carbon deposits happen and how to diagnose misfires and clean intake valves.
Driveability Diagnostics And Direct Injection
Direct injection systems can be a diagnostic challenge, but with the right foundation, problems can be solved profitably.
Servicing A Gasoline Direct Injection System
Because gasoline direct injection (GDI) was widely introduced during the 1990s, the configuration of any GDI system will vary according to age and application.
VIDEO: Direct Injection And Oil
Andrew Markel shows how the fuel pump, variable valve timing, and oil well work together, and how the failure of one of these components can lead to codes and other problems.
Direct Injection And Carbon Deposits
In 1985, Saab began using the new Bosch LH fuel injection system, and Volvo and other carmakers followed suit. The system worked such that incoming air passed through an airflow meter that sent a signal to the engine ECU telling it how much air was going into the engine. The coolant temp sensor then told the ECU how cold or warm the Âengine was, and it opened and closed the injectors when needed.
Volkswagen’s 1.4L Engine Reinforces Turbocharged, Direct Injection Technology
Volkswagen pioneered the use of small displacement; highly efficient turbocharged and direct-injection engines in the U.S. Volkswagen first used this combination of turbocharging and direct injection in this market in its TDI Clean Diesel engines in the Passat in 1996 and extended it into the gasoline field in the 2006 Jetta GLI and GTI models.
Gasoline Direct Injection Quick Quiz
Gasoline Direct Injected systems differ from the Port Fuel and Sequential Injected engine systems and a lot of the test procedures technician have been using in the past are not going to be useful on these newer systems. What does that mean to you? Take our five question quick quiz to see if you’ll be ready service these vehicles.
