Austin Gagne, a senior at Spaulding High School in Rochester, NH, recently won the gold medal from SkillsUSA state competition in Automotive Services and will be competing in the national competition in Louisville, KY.
From Dave Andreesen’s article on the Fosters.com website:
Spaulding High School Senior Austin Gagne will soon be a heading to a national competition in Louisville, Kentucky, after taking home a gold medal in Automotive Service Technology during a statewide SkillsUSA competition.
SkillsUSA is a national program that showcases some of the most talented career and technical education students in the country. Gagne — an Automotive Technology student at the Creteau Technology Center at Spaulding — competed against 28 other students from 10 other New Hampshire schools, during a competition held March 18 through March 20.
“There were a lot of different stations you had to go through and try and diagnose a problem with the car,” he said. “They handed you a sample customer complaint form and you had to test each component.”
Gagne said while the event was a great experience where he learned a lot, it was definitely stressful.
“You had five minutes to read the form and technical manual, and then 10 minutes to work on it,” he said. “It gets down to the wire and then all of a sudden, the horn goes off and you have to move onto the next station.”
