Not changing the TPMS components when you change the tire is like changing the oil without changing the filter.

Just like not replacing the filter could damage the engine, not performing TPMS maintenance by installing a new service kit can cause damage as well. By not replacing TPMS components, the corrosion of the parts over time could cause a tire leak, leading to loss of pressure, uneven tire wear, and potential damage to the expensive sensor itself. Suddenly you have an angry customer back in your shop saying you caused it, and likely a bill your shop will have to front to keep them happy.

So no shortcuts or taking the easy road. While it might save you time by not servicing the sensor when you’re changing the tire, in the end, you do more harm than good by not tending to it.

With tires lasting longer and going 30,000-40,000 miles and sometimes more without needing to be replaced, it’s important that the TPMS components are serviced each tire change. Because really, you never know when you’ll see that car in your shop again. After 60,000 miles? 80,000? By then, TPMS components could have already damaged the customer’s tire.
