snapontrainSnap-on has recently added four new Diagnostic Quick Tips training videos to its website and YouTube channel to help professional technicians speed up their diagnostic capabilities. The free videos provide training in an easy to watch format so technicians can use their Snap-on diagnostic tools to address specific problems on a vehicle.

“The new Diagnostic Quick Tips videos, based on real case studies, show how to apply diagnostics to specific vehicles and applications through two minute demonstrations of diagnostic tools solving common problems,” said Mark Schaefer, director of marketing, Snap-on Diagnostics.

The videos include:

ShopStream Connect – Data Manipulation

Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor Test Vehicle: 2013 Toyota RAV4

Modern air/fuel ratio sensors can be difficult to test and inspect. This Diagnostic Quick Tip shows how to test and inspect an air/fuel sensor using a scan tool.

To find the Quick Tips on the Snap-on website, visit http://diagnostics.snapon.com/TrainingSolutions and select a diagnostic tool. Once a Quick Tip has been selected, technicians will see which diagnostic tools the tip applies to, read an overview of the problem and then watch the resolution video.

Hosted by Snap-on National Field Trainer, Jason Gabrenas, the complete Quick Tips series is free of charge and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week online so technicians can watch the videos when it is most convenient for them.

Do Technicians Need Tips?

Asking for a tip would not go over well with your future customers.

You have probably seen many more businesses and retailers asking for tips during checkout. It is the screen typically seen before you approve the charge. I started to think about what would happen if shops would try asking for tips when customers picked up their vehicle.

Asking for tips would probably not have gone over too well with customers in the past or in today’s constantly shifting tipping culture. I think it is a question of how people think technicians are compensated. If you are paying 20% gratuity on a meal, it is understandable. But, technicians and shops provide more than a service, they provide expertise and tools that should be compensated through the number of hours billed, not a tip from the customer.
