A graduation luncheon held July 13 at Triton Community College in River Grove celebrated the school’s longtime partnership with General Motors (GM) and ACDelco’s Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP), which provides hands-on automotive technology experience for students.
The program, in its 34th year at the school, provides training and practical experience for students pursuing a career in automotive technology. It matches students with GM dealerships or ACDelco professional service centers in the area for hands-on experience. Throughout the two-year program, participants report to work at their sponsor’s service center in addition to attending classes at Triton.
Luncheon guest speaker Tim Mulcahy, an automotive service technician for more than 30 years, noted the importance of training and the need for good auto mechanics.
“I’m not a salesman for this program, I just see something that works here, and it works well,” Mulcahy said during the luncheon.
