1. Remove the LH halfshaft.

2. Inspect the halfshaft journal surface finish (Figure 1). If the journal does not have any metal transfer from the bushing, the halfshaft can be reused. Use the service kit that contains only the bushing and seal. If the journal surface finish has metal transfer from the bushing, replace the front halfshaft. The replacement bushing with the red Teflon coating on the inside diameter of the bushing allows for the reuse of the original halfshaft if the halfshaft journal does not have any metal transfer from the original bushing.

3. Replace the transmission case bushing. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01.

2009-2012 Escape/2009-2011 Mariner

1. Remove the LH halfshaft. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01.

2. Inspect the halfshaft journal surface finish (Figure 1). If the journal surface does not have any metal transfer from the bushing, the constant velocity (CV) joint can be reused. Use the service kit that contains only the bushing and seal. If the journal surface finish has metal transfer from the bushing, replace the inner CV joint housing.

3. Replace the transmission case bushing.
