Universal Technical Institute (UTI-Orlando) recently launched two new programs: Diesel & Industrial Technology and Auto + Diesel & Industrial Technology. In addition to diesel, the Orlando campus offers automotive, marine and motorcycle training.

The 45-week Diesel & Industrial Technology curriculum will prepare students to work on everything from diesel engines (buses, trucks, trains, etc.) to oil rigs and even farm equipment. For students who also want experience with automotive vehicles, the 75-week Auto + Diesel & Industrial Technology program exposes students to foreign and domestic vehicles, equipment and more.

“As one of the largest sectors in our country, transportation-related occupations are not going away,” said Steve McElfresh, president, UTI-Orlando. “The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the need for diesel technicians is expected to grow by 9% by 2022. With this increase across the nation, we want to be able to provide businesses and manufacturers with ready-to-work employees.”

The 154,781-square-foot training facility includes traditional classrooms, computer labs and hands-on training rooms, featuring manufacturer equipment from Caterpillar, Cummins, Daimler Trucks North America and International. Once students complete their core programs, they have the option to take Manufacturer-Specific Advanced Training (MSAT) to focus on one of these companies.

“Our MSAT programs provide students with very specialized training,” Wayne Lehnert, director of operations/education, said. “With brand-specific knowledge and familiarity with the latest technology features, students can better position themselves for a career when they graduate.”
