From The Blade website:

It’s not your typical artist canvas.

But the car hoods in Joel Beren’s self-serve auto parts sales lot on North Detroit Avenue have proven to be palatable backdrops for the creative deftness of area high school artists.

The junkyard at Cherry Picked Auto Parts is what you would visualize: roughly 2,000 cars at any one time lined up on the 13-acre yard to be dissected for parts. But Beren’s idea hatched as a way to dress up the interior surfaces of his business is perhaps more atypical.

Late 2015 was the third year Cherry Picked, 5650 N. Detroit Ave., called upon local art students to take part in a car hood painting competition.
