Automotive X PRIZE Winners Announced

Three teams — Edison2, X-Tracer and Li-ion Motors Corp - were awarded a share of $10 Million purse in Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE for Super Fuel-Efficient Vehicles.

WASHINGTON  – The X PRIZE Foundation, an educational nonprofit prize organization, and Progressive Insurance, the country’s fourth largest auto insurance group, awarded $10 million to three teams that successfully completed the rigorous Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE.

Officials from Progressive said that they believe many of these technologies will make it into future generations of vehicles and eventually into repair shops.

“It’s clear that they (the finalists) are pushing the envelope in terms of automotive innovation,” said Brian Silva, Progressive’s chief marketing officer. “Their breakthroughs will spur greater choices in fuel-efficient cars that everyone can afford.”
