From Noah Goldfarb’s article on The MetroWest Daily News website:

Woven inside a sleek 2017 BMW 5 series are more than 100 computers, controlling everything from the engine to the air conditioning to the suspension.

While not all car manufacturers are as focused on electronic systems as BMW, car companies are constantly revving up their attempts to bring the latest and greatest technology to their product lines and, as a result, properly trained and knowledgeable automotive technicians are hard to come by.

The automotive technology department at MassBay Community College offers programs in one of four different manufacturers – BMW, GM, Toyota, and Chrysler Fiat Automotive. The relationship between MassBay and the vehicle manufacturers they are associated with is largely symbiotic.

The secret to their success as cooperative organizations can be boiled down to a simple trade: The manufacturers supply automobiles for students to work on and the school turns out specialized, knowledgeable students to work for the car companies when they graduate.
