High School Dropout Turned Teacher Revitalizes Marlin ISD Automotive Program

The Marlin Independent School District had eliminated the automotive program five years ago.

From Shelly Conlon’s article on the Waco Tribune-Herald website:

When Brad Warren was a sophomore in high school, he dropped out, opened his own auto-body shop at 21, joined the U.S. Air Force at 25 and never looked back.

That was until he retired after 21 years, moved to Montana, and his wife at the time fell critically ill, Warren said.

“She almost died, had a couple brain surgeries and we said, ‘To hell with it’ and did what everybody always says they’re going to do. We jumped in a motor home, sold everything and hit the road,” Warren said. “My daughter moved to San Antonio, thus the Texas move.”

He is now Marlin Independent School District’s automotive instructor and using his life lessons and automotive skills in reopening and transforming a program that hasn’t existed in the district for five years. He’s also teaching students in a district on the verge of closure that they do have a future.
