Veterans Day has special meaning for Tom Costa of Belmont as his military service has been the springboard leading to a civilian career that he truly loves.

Costa has lived in Belmont since he was a small child and he graduated from Belmont High School in 1999 with two goals — to serve his nation as a solider and to someday become an automobile mechanic.

In 16 years since finishing high school, he’s achieved both objectives.

“I’ve been interested in the military since I was a freshman or sophomore in school when my sister first talked to a recruiter,” Costa said. “After graduation I enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent five years on active duty.”
