Students in auto mechanics classes at Elizabethton High School in Johnson City, TN, had the chance to see a variety of race cars on Tuesday.
From Johnson City Press:
Fast cars and teenagers have historically been a dangerous combination, but the two were brought together Tuesday in the auto mechanics classes at Elizabethton High School in order to encourage safety.
Paul Linberg, auto mechanics teacher, said this is the fourth year he has brought area racers and owners to the class to show of the big engines of dragsters, dirt track cars and NASCAR-style cars. He said many of the students are inspired to learn they can also build a lightning-fast car or truck.
Linberg said the second part of the message is that there are appropriate places to show off how fast a car is. The drivers discuss their experiences on the race track and the drag strip. They emphasize that public streets and roads are not the place to prove the speed of a car.
