From John Bailey’s article on the Hickory Record website:

The Maiden High School automotive technology club is only in its third year, but the students are ready to make some noise with their entry into the Charlotte STEAM, R.A.T. Rod (Radically Alternative Thinking) hot rod competition.

Charlotte STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) and Harper Corporation of America have challenged students from across North Carolina and South Carolina to build a R.A.T. Rod,

The Maiden High automotive club will be aiming to have their vehicle ready for a show at UNC Charlotte on April 23.

“I’ve learned a lot more than I expected from this,” said Maiden High senior Brandon Allison, who plans on working in the automotive technology field. “We’ve learned how to cut frames. We’re learning how to weld them.”
