According to Hemmings.com, one of the original DeLorean DMC-12 cars used as a time machine in the “Back To The Future” movie trilogy was auctioned and sold for a high bid of $541,000.
Some of the proceeds from the sale of the car last week went to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
Hemmings reported that the auctioned DeLorean was one of seven built for the film series and allegedly one of only three remaining. The auction price of this Hollywood car may prove to be a world record for this type of sale. However, had the car not been one of the DeLoreans used for the Robert Zemeckis-directed film, it’d be worth around $30,000.
The DeLorean has been experiencing a pop culture revival of late. In October, it was announced that the DeLorean Motor Company of Texas, will produce an electric powered version of the vehicle. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/02/electric-delorean-dmc-12-ev-photos_n_1072866.html
