Deadline Nearing for 2014-’15 Automotive Scholarship Applications

The deadline for students to apply for 2014-2015 scholarships through the Automotive Scholarships website,www.AutomotiveScholarships.com, is coming up soon – applications must be completed by Monday, March 31, 2014.

The application process is entirely electronic through the website. The scholarships are available to students in two-year technical college programs and vocational schools and four-year college programs.

“The scholarships available through the Automotive Scholarship’s site range from $500 to $5,000. We urge everyone in the automotive aftermarket to promote the scholarship site to their colleagues in the industry, friends and families, and to encourage students to apply for scholarships before the March 31 deadline,” said Pete Kornafel, chairman of the GAAS Scholarship Selection Committee.

“Thanks to the generous support of the University of the Aftermarket Foundation and to the many other industry organizations and state associations, students can fill out just one application to be considered for multiple scholarship awards.

A record-setting 250 awards totaling more than $260,000 were presented through the GAAS scholarship program for the 2013-2014 academic year, including 115 scholarships funded by the University of the Aftermarket Foundation. An additional 76 scholarships were presented by state automotive aftermarket associations and other industry organizations.

Ten of the GAAS scholarships were funded through a grant from the University of the Aftermarket Foundation. Seven additional scholarships were presented by GAAS to Canadian students. In its 16 year history, the GAAS Scholarship program has presented more than $1.8 million in awards to more than 1,800 students.

The majority of the 2013-2014 GAAS U.S. recipients had grade point averages (GPAs) of 3.0 or higher: 77 percent of the recent high school graduates and 90 percent of the students already enrolled in post-secondary schools.
