HAMILTON, Ill. – Hamilton High School students have access to safer, more modern automotive equipment thanks to a $20,000 partnership grant between Carl Sandburg College and HHS.

HHS students and staff, community members and Carl Sandburg representatives attended an open house Tuesday afternoon to check out the auto shop’s new gadgets obtained through an Illinois Community College Board Programs of Study – Pathways to Results grant.

“The impetus of that grant is (that) we needed to partner a community college and a high school,” said Lauri Wiechmann, dean of career technology and health education at Carl Sandburg. “It’s wonderful to be able to partner with Hamilton.”

The high school has had an auto shop for many years, but beginning with this school year, Hamilton offers dual credit through Carl Sandburg to juniors and seniors taking the advanced auto class. Sophomores will be able to participate next year.
