This year’s main event for COPO Camaro owners, the 2016 Holley LS Fest at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, KY, held September 9-11, 2016, is offering a $10,000 prize to the winner of the “Battle at the Green” COPO Camaro drag race. The event is co-sponsored by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering and the School of Automotive Machinists & Technology (SAM Tech).

The Holley LS Fest is the largest gathering of LS engine powered vehicles in the country, with more than 671 competitors and 12,000 enthusiasts from across the U.S. attending in 2015.  The COPO Camaro class is one of the most popular events with spectators at each Holley LS Fest. Lingenfelter Performance Engineering and SAM Tech have both supported this class since its inception.

“Our goal for 2016 is to have the largest contingent of COPO cars ever to compete for the $10,000 prize at this prestigious event,” said Ken Lingenfelter, CEO of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering. “Lingenfelter has a long history in drag racing and the COPO Camaro is probably the best factory drag race vehicle ever made. We are proud to co-sponsor this race with SAM Tech.”

At “Battle at the Green,” COPO cars will compete under NHRA rules for Stock and Super Stock eliminator with a qualified pro ladder, racing for the $10,000 purse with the runner-up receiving a $1,000 payout based on a 32 car field.

“We are very excited about the first Lingenfelter and SAM Tech COPO ‘Battle at the Green.’ So far, we have had a tremendous response from COPO drivers, many of whom had never considered attending Holley LS Fest,” said Jud Massingill, director of education for the School of Automotive Machinists & Technology. “The staff, facilities, competitors and sponsors make this a must attend race every year. SAM Tech is proud to have sponsored Holley LS Fest since its inaugural race and we have enjoyed watching the race grow each year.”

COPO racers will be pitted on site in a special area reserved exclusively for them. Qualifying will be run at special times during the event, against the NHRA index for their respective class. Racers will compete in an all “dial in” format for eliminations, no heads up for same class vehicles.
